Targeting a specific business is tricky. Finding the people on the decision-making committees or in decision-making positions is half the battle. There are 3 key ways that we target business data:
Standard Industrial Classification, or SIC codes, help to identify specific categories of businesses. For example, if you have a product or service geared towards smaller real estate brokerages, you could simply search for companies with 1-5 employees with the SIC code 653102 (Real Estate). This would generate a list of small real estate brokerages most of which would have the owner as a primary contact.
Niche business publications provide another method for targeting specific industries. A magazine that targets restaurant owners would have a database of subscribers that are most likely restaurateurs or high-level managers in the restaurant industry. Every magazine, for the most part, rents their subscriber data, and this is often more expensive than standard SIC data.
Some industries or B2B products target specific product or software users. These databases can be generic like a particular accounting software (which wouldn’t tell you the client’s industry) and some products/services may only be relevant to a specific industry or group. A good example of this might be a software that veterinarians use – this database would only include people that have bought the service, and that list would mainly be veterinarians. There are thousands of product and service inquiry/buyer databases similar to this in our publications data.
