Congratulations Graduate!

How to effectively market to graduates?  Don’t forget their parents!

While graduation from High School, College, or these days, 5th grade, is a major accomplishment, the prospective consumer they represent is valuable to a variety of industries.

Roughly 3.5 million students are expected to graduate from high school in 2016–17

Although the age of 18 comes with adult privileges, the majority of graduates are still financially reliant on their parent(s).  Accurate graduate data allows businesses to market to them and their relative(s).

Graduates may be interested in industries such as:

  • College applications.  Where will you advance your education?
  • Scholarship availability.  How will you pay for your undergraduate degree?
  •  First time credit offers.  At roughly 18 years of age, this is a highly infiltrated demographic ready to put them on the path to debt.
  • Apartment and housing rental.  Not many grads are looking to live in their parent’s basements.
  • Quick cash solutions.  Graduates rarely have enough money.  Working at the local ice cream shop may be great when all you have to pay for is gas and fun, yet not so great at financial advancing adulthood.

Graduate parents are often marketed to in the areas of:

  • College funding and saving programs.  The all too real tuition expenses must be paid for somehow!
  • New car loans.  Many generous parents buy their child a car to send them off to college, or buy themselves one after their at-home family size changes.
  •  Home refinancing.  Fiscally responsible parents are open to a variety of financing solutions to afford their grown children privileges such as a college education.
  •  Home sales.  The large family home may no longer be necessary or affordable after little birdies leave the nest.
  • Debt consolidation.  Having a family is expensive without anyone in college.  As children begin to graduate, families are forced to reconcile debt in order to make financial plans for the future.
  • Graduation party needs.  Graduation parties are expensive and extensive.  From tables to tents, food to bands, graduation parties dominate the graduate parents’ spring and summer.
